Palme angrily yanks out roots that begin to sprout on the back of his hand.

Palme has a circulatory system of kooloop oil that keeps him from turning back into a tree. His oil was supplemented with mythical Crosskala oil from Koram before his hazardous journey. He loses oil at different times during his travels, and he is traveling in daylight which stimulates root growth. He is clearly losing his ability to maintain his form.

Palme’s increasingly anxious and paranoid fantasies are now mixed with those of Koram whose spirit accompanies him. He is becoming increasingly unstable both physically and mentally.
